History of Agriculture

Before knowing about agriculture, it is also necessary to know about its history.

Friends, agriculture has been started from thousands of years ago.  Before the beginning of agriculture, people (primitive humans) used to eat fruits or hunted animals.  Later he came to know that a new plant of the same type grows in the ground when the fruit or seed falls.  Then they understood that plants could be grown in one place to produce more fruits or grains to eat.


First they started farming by cutting down the forests, thus agriculture developed.  7500 BC  Human beings first started growing crops, at this time wheat and barley were grown.  

And animals like horse, ox etc. were used, although their first domesticated animal was the dog.  But from the point of view of animal husbandry, the first domesticated animal of primitive man was sheep (8700 BC), and the second domestic animal was goat (7700 BC).  Emmer Wheat (Triticum dicoccon) and Einkorn Wheat (Triticum monococcum) were previously grown in wheat.

 Agriculture developed independently in northern and southern China, the Sahel in Africa, New Guinea, and many regions of the Americas.


Indian Agriculture -

 You all know that India is an agricultural country.  About 70% of the population here is based on agriculture.  And out of the total area of ​​India, about 51% of the land is cultivated.  Apart from this, 4% of the land is pasture and 21% of the land is forested.  Agriculture accounts for 16% of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in India.


Meaning of Agriculture


 English word "Agriculture" Latin word "Agricultura"

 It is derived from 2 Latin words - "Ager" and "Cultura"

in which Ager means -  Field (a field) and Cultura means Cultivation (plowing or land finishing).  

In clear words, it is from plowing the field.


 Agriculture refers to the process or art, science or technology of producing crops.

 Under this, crop production, fruit production, animal husbandry, poultry, bee keeping, fisheries, etc. are also included.


 Definition of Agriculture :-


 1' "Agriculture is the art, science and industry which manages the development of plants and animals for human use."


 2' "Agriculture is the art and science of growing plants and other crops and rearing animals for food, human needs and more profit."


3' " Agriculture is the art and science of growing plants and other crops and raising animals for food, other human needs, or economic gain."


 4' According to Whittleshy - "Human effort made for the purpose of obtaining products of plant and animal origin is called agriculture."
