What is IFS | Integrated Farming System | Definition, Model and Benefits of Integrated Farming System

Hello friends AGRIFIELDEA English welcome to all of you.  So let's come straight to our today's main topic without any unnecessary things which is Integrated Farming System.

What is IFS | Integrated Farming System | Definition, Model and Benefits of Integrated Farming System

You must be aware that nowadays our farmers have many problems, in which if we talk about this integrated farming system of today, the main problem is the lack of cultivable land with the farmers, and apart from this there are many problems like soil problems.  Declining fertility, lack of resources, increasing population and gradually shrinking forests.  That is why most of the farmers have shortage of cultivable land.

Farmer brothers, if you are fed up with similar problems related to agriculture and high cost of agriculture, then you do not need to be disappointed or leave agriculture at all.  If there is a need for such a system, by which you can earn maximum profit by using less agricultural land, less cost and resources.

What is IFS (Integrated Farming System)

Definition of Integrated Farming System -

In Integrated farming system, agriculture can be integrated with livestock, poultry and fish are maintained at same place to generate employment around the year and also get additional income. For example, same place poultry in upper layer and utilize their excreta. Pigs are in lower layer, residual water from pond was utilized for Agriculture and fodder crops production.

Under this system, at least 2 components of agriculture have been adjusted, we adjust more than that in such a way that the adjustment of one reduces the cost of the other and increases the production and the farmers get income from it throughout the year, so this system  This is called Integrated Farming System (IFS).

Now you must have understood by looking at the above model of 'integrated farming system' that crop production, fruit production, vegetable production, animal husbandry, poultry, fish farming, duck farming etc. can be included in this system together.

Due to which if we suffer loss from one component or sector, then it gets compensated by the other.  That is, if due to some reason or as if due to any natural reasons there is a loss in vegetable production, then we will not suffer much loss or disappointment because we still have other means from which we can earn profit like animal husbandry, poultry farming, fish farming,  Fruit production etc.

And they are channels of each other's energy, that means for example the crop residues that are left over are used as fodder for livestock and chickens and can make good compost from the remains of animals, chickens and.  The remains and beets are used as fodder for fish.

Friends, if seen in today's time, this Integrated Farming System is a very good model to get more income at less cost, so that the income of the farmer can be doubled, so the farmer brothers are requested to take the main crop, Along with this, whatever is possible such as animal husbandry, poultry, fish farming and horticulture such as fruit, vegetable production or mushroom production etc.

Approximate IFS model for one acre -

  •  60% - Crop, garden or fruit, vegetable production
  •  20% - Pond Fishing
  •  20% - Animal Husbandry, Poultry Farming,
  •  5% - Mushroom production and compost manure
  •  5% - Farm House

Benefits of Integrated Farming System

Advantages of Integrated Farming System:

Friends or farmer brothers or students of agriculture, now you must have understood that what can be the benefits of Integrated Farming System, yet we will try to know the benefits of Integrated Farming System sequentially -

1. The biggest advantage of integrated farming system is that all its components are dependent on each other.  Means how much the waste material of one component is necessary for the other.

2. The initial cost may be high but once the system is installed, the cost comes down.

3. If poultry, duck farming, and fish farming are also being done under this system, then there is no need to spend much for the fish feed.  Because the beet of chickens and ducks is used as food for fish, at least 20 to 25% of the food is supplied.  Therefore, by the adjustment of these three components, farmers get additional benefits.  This reduces the cost of fish farming by 20 - 25%.

4. Farmers get all the products of their needs only through integrated farming system.  That is, the family of the farmer can depend on it throughout the year and the income continues throughout the year.

5. There is an increase in income, even if there is a loss from one component, then it gets compensated in the form of profit from the other.

6. Another biggest advantage of this is that you get experience or knowledge of all the fields (like animal husbandry, poultry, mushroom production and garden etc.)

7. In this system, by choosing the component of your choice in less space, you can earn many times more income than normal farming.  In which you can also do such a thing that by rearing fish in a pond, duck farming in the pond and by making proper arrangements on one side of the pond and over the pond- you can do poultry farming by making a hen house.

8. This is where the fodder for the animals is obtained and the dung for compost is obtained from the animals.  That is, there is no need to buy cow dung from outside for compost and there is no need to go anywhere for fodder.

Things to note in Integrated Farming System (IFS):-

The farmers should keep in mind that in the 'Integrated Farming System', they should choose the products according to themselves, what is the market status of which products in their area?

How is the weather there?  In which product will the income be good?  What is the social situation in your area?  Attention should be paid to that.

Therefore, keeping all these things in mind, you should choose the products and components in your integrated farming system.  Therefore, with your understanding, choose all these things which have been mentioned in your integrated farming system.

Friends, we hope that whatever we wanted to say about the integrated farming system, you have understood well.
