Hello friends, today we will talk about the Pest and its Control measure in different types of crops.  In control measures, especially about Integrated Pest Management.

So before knowing about IPM (Integrated Pest Management), you need to know what are the pests of crops.

What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM) ?

So please read the whole post to understand it better.  And to know or read more such things related to agriculture, please visit our Agrifieldea blog from time to time or follow us.

PEST : Insect pest in agriculture and type of insects pest.

Production and plant protection technology has an important role to play in meeting the food requirements for the ever-increasing population of the country.  And in today's time people are increasing the use of chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc to produce more Crop production.  Due to which there is adverse effect on the environment and soil.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a combination of various planned scientific methods and protection methods adopted to reduce the increasing pollution of these chemicals on the environment.  In this method, the available resources are used at the right time and in the right quantity, in which production increases along with the control of insect pests.

Definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)-

Integrated pest management (IPM) is an ecosystem approach to crop production and protection that combines different management strategies and practices to grow healthy crops and minimise the use of pesticides.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is the use of all possible sources of management for the management of pests of crops by coordinating them all together as a program.

What are the Tools of IPM ?  ,

 Tools Of IPM:-

The components of IPM are as follows:-

  1.  Cultural
  2.  Biological
  3.  Mechanical
  4.  Chemical
  5.  Legal or legislative

1. Cultural Methods:-

Cultural methods mainly include planting resistant varieties, tolerant varieties, summer deep plowing, adopting crop rotation, Clean Cultivation, Use of trap crop, seed treatment, timely sowing, water management, correct spacing of plants and row, Pruning and Thinning, etc.

2. Biological methods:-

In biological methods, parasitic and predatory organisms are used for the management of insects, which eat harmful insects, and do not harm the crops in any way.

3. Mechanical/physical method:-

In this method, insects are destroyed by holding them by hand (Hand picking) and with the net and by shaking or sweeping the insect larvae from the plants, Shaking and beating of branches, Prevent climbing pastes, wire gauge screen, flooding and drainage.  And different types of insect catchers are used like Light Trap, Sticky Trap, Pheromone Trap etc.

4. Chemical method:-

When there is a high Population/Incidence of pests in the fields, then insecticide chemicals should be used for pest control.

5. Legal or Legislative Methods  :-

in this  -

1).  International Quarantine: - Quarantine for seeds or plant material coming from one country to another.

2).  Domestic Quarantine: - For a region or state.

 3).  Campaign to control pests.
